Chapter 10
Finding and Hiring the Videographer

Again, good videographers are booked for Saturdays at least 6 months in advance. Book them early

Start with recommendations, then resort to the phone book. Your photographer, venue and DJ might know good ones. Make sure it's not just a brother in law. Tell them you really insist on knowing one who is truly diligent.

Compare, compare, compare. Look at sample work.

Allow the videographer to tour the venue beforehand, so he can get ideas for camera placement, etc. You should be able to show him at this time where things will be (Band stage, catering tables, etc.)

Having a friend or relative as the videographer is not nearly as much of a no-no as trying to have one as a caterer or photographer. Bad video won't ruin the entire wedding.

Have a list of video shots you want beforehand. Make sure the videographer knows the program and knows where you want him to be and when. Go over the whole thing with him and make sure he takes notes.

A couple weeks before the wedding, check back with the videographer and verify details, venue, date. Make sure he's still around and in good standing.
